What is Iovera°®?
Iovera is an advanced treatment that targets pain in focused areas using cold therapy. Freezing cold is applied onto the surface of your skin using a portable handheld device.
A cold zone is created under the skin, which prevents the nerve from sending pain signals to the specific area and provides temporary relief.
Since Iovera treats nerves in a focused area, you’ll experience pain relief on that particular part of the body being treated. Treatment with Iovera may provide relief that lasts up to 90 days*.
What does Iovera treat?
Knee pain is the primary indication for Iovera. The most common conditions leading to severe knee pain are:
-
Osteoarthritis of the knees
-
Rheumatoid arthritis
-
Posttraumatic arthritis resulting from prior injury
-
Perioperative pain
Dr. Carr has had so much success with Iovera treatments in his patients that 100% of his patients recieve this treatment prior to knee replacement to assist with their recovery. This has led to an 80% reduction in opioid pain medication requirements compared to his competitors as well as a 2 day shorter hospital stay than his competitors with the vast majority of his patients returning home comfortably on the day of surgery.
What is the process like for Iovera treatment?
During your treatment with Las Vegas Concierge Orthopedics, you may be instructed to lay down as the team works to treat the focused area of your body with the Iovera handheld device. Iovera treatment is performed on an outpatient basis.
The treatment process takes about 15-30 minutes. Cold therapy is applied by a handheld device that the team uses to administer treatment.
There’s minimal downtime after receiving cold therapy, and you’ll be able to return to your normal activities.
You may feel slight discomfort due to the freezing cold. After your treatment with Iovera, you may also experience bruising, swelling, or inflammation in the treated area. However, it’s important to note that these symptoms are typical. You can use ice packs to reduce swelling.
If you experience pain or other symptoms, please reach out to the team at Las Vegas Concierge Orthopedics for further guidance.
What are the benefits of Iovera treatment?
Iovera treatment is considered a minimally-invasive alternative to treat pain. Nothing is injected into your body. The treatment is focused on the surface of a particular area of your body.
Many people with conditions like arthritis and other types of chronic pain can benefit from cold therapy. Treatment using cold therapy may be able to reduce swelling and improve circulation, which can relieve painful symptoms.
